23 Aug Success Story: Kalpana Builds a Sustainable Future Through Poultry Farming
In the hills of Sindhupalchowk District in Nepal, Kalpana Magarati is taking an important step towards financial independence and a more secure future for her family.
A member of a self-help group, Kalpana recently started a small poultry farm. Through the project, she received 35 fertilised eggs from another beneficiary. This initiative is based on an inspiring model of solidarity: each woman who receives support is encouraged to pass on part of the resources she has received to help another participant start her own activity.
Using an incubator provided by the programme, all 35 eggs hatched successfully. What began as an opportunity has now become a genuine source of hope and income.
Kalpana now plans to sell eggs and poultry on the local market, as well as to schools supported by our project. This activity will enable her to generate a regular income for her household while contributing to the local economy.
Beyond the financial benefits, her journey illustrates the power of mutual support among women. By sharing knowledge, resources and opportunities, they are building sustainable solutions together that continue to create an impact long after the initial support has been provided.
Today, Kalpana is not only improving her family’s living conditions; she is also becoming a source of inspiration for other women in her community.
An Impact That Reaches the Entire Community
Kalpana’s story is just one example among the hundreds of families supported by the project in Indrawati Municipality.
Today, thanks to the commitment of our local partners and the support of our donors:
- 478 children regularly attend supplementary education classes.
- More than 900 children receive nutritious school meals throughout the year.
- 653 women are involved in self-help groups and income-generating activities.
- Around 100 women are increasing their income by selling their products to schools and within their communities.
As the project continues to expand into new villages, more and more families are gaining the opportunity to strengthen their independence, improve their living conditions and build a more secure future for their children.
Because when we invest in education, nutrition and women’s empowerment, an entire community is given the opportunity to grow and create lasting change.
