24 Sep Success Story: Gudiya Turns Training into a Real Springboard

Originally from Masmano, a village in the Chanho block, Gudiya is the youngest of five children. Her father is a farmer, and the household’s income depends mainly on modest, seasonal agricultural work.

From an early age, Gudiya wanted to contribute to her family’s needs while building a future of her own. Despite the family’s financial challenges, her parents always encouraged their children to pursue their education.

After completing her studies, Gudiya heard from her brothers about the computer training courses offered at the Chanho centre. She decided to join the programme and enrolled in Basic Computing and Desktop Publishing courses.

Throughout the training, she developed practical computer skills as well as Hindi and English typing skills. The trainers also introduced her to employment opportunities that could become accessible thanks to these new competencies.

After completing the programme, Gudiya secured a position as a computer operator at the Common Service Center in Bijupara, approximately 20 kilometres from her home. She now works there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and earns a monthly salary of 6,000 rupees, in addition to a daily transport allowance of 50 rupees.

This first income represents much more than a salary. It now enables her to contribute to her family’s expenses while continuing to invest in her own future.

Every morning, before going to work, Gudiya attends classes to prepare for competitive examinations. Thanks to her job, she is now able to finance this additional training herself.

The programme has also strengthened her self-confidence and improved her ability to communicate with customers in her new professional environment.

Gudiya says:

“The computer courses, along with learning how to type in Hindi and English, helped me find a job. Today, I am able to pay for my competitive exam preparation classes and also support my family financially. I am grateful to the Amar Jyoti Society and the CIAO KIDS Foundation for giving me the opportunity to learn computer skills and develop my abilities.”
Gudiya’s story is a concrete example of the impact that access to appropriate vocational training can have.

Learning new skills, finding a first job, becoming more independent, supporting one’s family and continuing one’s education: a single opportunity can open up many different paths.

Today, Gudiya is working, contributing to her household income and continuing to pursue her own ambitions at the same time.
