23 Aug Five blind young people take a decisive step toward their future

At the Amar Jyoti Centre for Blind Children in the state of Jharkhand, India, five young people have just reached a major milestone in their journey: they successfully passed their Grade 10 final examinations.
For many students, this exam marks the end of an important stage in their education. For these five visually impaired or blind teenagers, it represents much more: proof that disability should never stand in the way of education or dreams.

Thanks to their determination, the support of specialized teachers, and the guidance provided by the Amar Jyoti Centre, supported by CIAO KIDS, they will continue their studies at St Anne’s Junior College while remaining residents at the centre.

During our visit in March 2026, we had the opportunity to speak with them about their experiences, challenges and ambitions. They all shared the same desire to continue learning, develop their digital skills and build an independent future.

One of the challenges they currently face is speaking English. Although they understand the language, they rarely have the opportunity to practise it in their daily lives. New activities will therefore be introduced to strengthen their confidence and communication skills.

Their achievement perfectly reflects CIAO KIDS’ mission: to provide children with disabilities with the tools, education and confidence they need to take an active role in shaping their own future.

Today, these five young people are looking ahead with ambition. We are proud to support them on their journey.
