04 Apr Gudiya Oraon: A Story of Determination and Independence
Gudiya Oraon comes from Masmano, a remote village in the Chanho district. Born into a modest family, her father works as a seasonal farmer while her mother takes care of the household. The youngest of five siblings, Gudiya has always been surrounded by love and support. Despite limited means, her parents encouraged all their children to pursue their education.
Inspired by her brothers’ stories about the computer course offered at our center in Chanho, Gudiya decided to enroll after completing her diploma. She undertook training in basic computer skills and Desktop Publishing. During the course, she also learned typing in both Hindi and English, while discovering the many professional opportunities available in various sectors, thanks to the encouragement of her teachers.
After successfully completing her training, Gudiya secured a job as a computer operator at the Common Service Center in Bijupara, located 20 km from her home. With a salary of ₹6,000 per month and a daily transport allowance of ₹50, she is now able to fund her civil service exam preparation courses, which she attends every morning. She then works at the center from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This training not only boosted her self-confidence but also helped her develop communication skills essential for effectively interacting with clients.
Gudiya shares: “The courses on internet use and typing in Hindi and English helped me get a job. Today, I can pay for my preparation classes and also support my family financially. I thank Amar Jyoti Society and the CIAO KIDS Foundation for giving me the opportunity to learn computer skills and improve myself.”
Thanks to her dedication and determination, Gudiya has become a role model for the youth in her community, proving that with willpower and a little support, anything is possible.
